Below are group training runs in Fort Collins, including ones not organized by the Fort Collins Running Club.

Weekly Runs

Sundays until April 16, 2017 (except for first Sundays when FCRC Tortoise & Hare races are held): Horsetooth Half Marathon training runs. Starting locations alternate between New Belgium Brewery and Maxwell Open Space Reserve. Free and open to the public. More info here. (Organizer: FCRC)

Mondays: Cancer support group run. Lee Martinez Park @ 5:00 P.M. (Organizer: FCRC)

Mondays, March-October: Daylight Savings Time marks the annual return of Altitude Running Fun Runs. These 3-5 mile runs leave from the store on the corner of College and Harmony @ 6:00 P.M. Check the Altitude Running Facebook page for more info. (Organizer: Altitude Running store).

Monday, August 21st: The fourth and final Fortitude 10k training run starts at 6pm at New Belgium. There will be pace groups available and a training schedule. (Organizer: Fortitude 10k)

Tuesday Night Track: Track workouts formerly organized by the late Jane Welzel continue at the dog track behind the University Center of the Arts (the former Fort Collins High School) at 6:00 P.M. (Organizer: TnT Running Google Group)

Trail Tuesdays: Weekly trail run at the trail head at the west end of Michaud Lane at 6:00 P.M. No longer allowed by City due to complaints about group size.

Wednesdays: Runners Roost Wednesday night runs, 6:00 P.M. Each Wednesday runners start running from the store, except for the last Wednesday of the month in which they meet at Equinox Brewery for a pub run. Runners who frequently attend these runs can also earn rewards in the Runners Roost’s Run Club Rewards Program. Runners Roost also holds other various events—check Runners Roost Facebook page. Thursdays: Starting April 27, 2017, FCRC group run starting at Cottonwood Glen Park parking lot at 6:00 P.M. Meet at 6:00 where the bike path comes out by the ball field. The group can mix up running south or east on the bike path or cut over the ridge and run in Pine Ridge. The runs will range from three to five miles. (Organizer: FCRC/Tom Schipper)

Thursdays (bi-weekly): Towers Handicap Time Trial Ascent from the Soderberg Trailhead at Horsetooth Mountain Park at 6:00 P.M. The time trial is 3.4 miles with 1,700′ vertical gain, but you need to come back down, so 6.8 miles round trip. (Organizer: Fort Collins Trail Runners)

    1. Hi Susanne. To join the training groups, just show up 5-10 minutes before the designated times at the designated locations and look for runners. That’s all there is to it! I don’t think any paperwork is needed in most, if not all, cases.

    1. Would love weekend runs. They are my longer runs. I also run with my dog if you would like to make it a dog runners group. I am near CSU/Campus west.

    1. Hi Dana. Virtually all of these options are beginner friendly. This is not to say everyone will be running the same speed as you, just that there will very likely be at least one person willing to run with you and make sure you don’t get lost!

      Best to just come out and try at least once. I’ve met so many “beginners” who are intimidated to come out but when they finally do (e.g., when I coerce them) they wish they had done so sooner. 🙂

    I just moved to Fort Collins recently from the east coast, and am looking to meet people with the same passion for running. I am a stay at home Mom, and would love to run in the early mornings, any scheduled runs in that time period?

    1. Hi Tina. Welcome to the Fort! I am sure we have many members running in the morning, although from our Training Runs page, it looks like we only have evening runs scheduled.

      I would suggest posting a message to our Facebook page and see if anyone would be interested in running with you in the early mornings. (I would be if you are on the north side of town!) A lot more members interact through the Facebook page than our website.

    I was wondering about joining the running club and wondered if there were any gatherings on Sunday or Monday? I have recently decided I need to get back into shape and started running again, but miss having people to run/jog with.

    1. Hi Kevin. Short answer: not many. All our regularly scheduled events are listed here on this page. In addition, on the first Sunday from October-April, we have the Tortoise & Hare races, which includes breakfast afterwards.

      But there are members who do their own runs on Sunday and Monday and would love someone to run with. I encourage you to join (“like”) our Facebook page and post something on the wall and see if any members would like to join you.

  4. I put up a post on the Facebook page, but I haven’t heard anything back so I figured I’d try here.

    I just moved to Fort Collins this week and am looking for some company during runs (and also just to meet some folks!). I’m in the middle of training for a marathon, so having someone on the long runs, or even a portion of them, would be enjoyable.

    1. Would love to have company on my runs a few times a month or more. I am currently training to do a fun run double marathon from old town fort collins to Pearl Street in Boulder some time next summer.
