The FireKracker 5k is the Fort Collins Running Club’s big race for the year, usually attracting around 1000 participants on the Fourth of July. This year’s edition—the 12th running of it—happens to coincide with the 100-year anniversary of City Park.
This will be a zero waste event, meaning we are trying to divert 85% or more of event related waste away from the landfill through recycling and composting.
It is a must-do race and registration is now open. You can conveniently sign up online and pay NO additional fees (since the running club is absorbing them) at Running Guru. Or you may sign up in person at either Runner’s Roost or Foot of the Rockies as noted on our official event page.
Note that FCRC members get a $5 discount, but to get it while registering online, you need to enter a discount code. If you were a FCRC member by May 31, 2012, you should have received a discount code from us in your e-mail. E-mail us if you are a FCRC member and need a discount code again.
If you are not already a member, join the club today!
Due to lack of interest, our Eden Valley training run (which was going to be held on Saturday, June 9th) has been canceled.
There will be a long training run in July at Redstone Canyon, but a date hasn’t been set yet. We will send out a notification once this has been determined. Be sure to e-mail us then if you are interested so we don’t cancel that one as well!
Here’s a note from Connie about some upcoming events. I think the FCRC Member Run and Picnic Breakfast (August 5th) is at Rolland Moore Park.
Please mark your calendar for Sunday, August 5th, 8AM for the annual FCRC Member Run and Picnic Breakfast. There will be more details as we get closer. We will also have board elections that day, so if you are interested in serving, please contact me for more information.
Also, the Eden Valley run and potluck breakfast will be Saturday, June 9th at 7AM. Please let me know if you plan on attending so I can get a feel for member interest. (This was canceled due to lack of interest.)
Thanks and have a great and safe Memorial Day weekend.
Have you ever wanted to try the sport of triathlon for the cross-training benefits, but are daunted by the thought of open-water swimming?
If so, consider this new weekly Swim & Run triathlon training series that Fort Collins Running Club member and race director extraordinaire Lisa Sinclair of Green Events is putting on this summer. It is on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM at Horsetooth Reservoir and includes your choice of a long- or short-course swim plus five-kilometer run.
In addition, USAT Coach and 2008 Ironman World Champion Wendy Mader is putting on a weekly open water swim clinic.

This summer we will have three longer Saturday runs in scenic areas around Fort Collins. The first one will be June 9th in Eden Valley.
Below are a few more details from FCRC President Connie D. As the date gets closer, she will provide more details.
Final day to submit an order for FCRC long & short sleeve t-shirts, singlets and hats is this Sunday, May 6th.
We are planning a longer Saturday run once a month during the summer. June will be Eden Valley in Loveland, July is Redstone Canyon, and August will be Old Flowers Road.
The Eden Valley Run will be Saturday, June 9th, 7AM, so mark your calendar! It will be about 13 miles and I will send out the details as we get closer. Afterwards, we’ll have a potluck breakfast in the picnic area for anyone who’s interested.
To all running any of the CO Marathon races this weekend, good luck and have a blast!!
